Ivanka Trump Slapped With Lawsuit for Allegedly Copying Shoe Designs
Acaciapat.com - Ivanka Trump Slapped With Lawsuit for Allegedly Copying Shoe Designs. Italian footwear company Aquazzura just slapped Ivanka Trump with a lawsuit claiming she stole their designed.
The Huffington Post reports that the lawsuit states that Ivanka’s shoe line, which is licensed by co-defendant Marc Fisher, is guilty of “repeated infringement” and “deceptive trade practices” for knocking off Aquazzura’s best selling sandal. In the documents, the Italian company alleges that Ivanka ripped off their “Wild Thing” sandal which retails for $785. As you can see in the pictures below, Trump’s $145″Hettie” shoe is of a strikingly similar design. Very pinteresting.
“[The Hettie shoe] is representative of a trending fashion style, is not subject to intellectual property law protection and there are similar styles made by several major brands,” Matthew Burris, CFO of Marc Fisher, said. “The lawsuit is without merit and we will vigorously defend ourselves against the claim.”
However, Aquazzura says they’re not just going after Ivanka; they’re also targeting the other companies they claim stole their designs.
“I have nothing against Ivanka Trump,” said the Italian company’s founding designer, Edgardo Osorio. “It’s not only her, and I’m glad to [call others out on Instagram also]. I plan to do the same with Steve Madden and other people who have ripped us off…. Sometimes I look at the buys in department stores, and I see copies of my shoes. We need to be harder with our retailers. They need to protect us. You can’t cannibalize one business with another.”
